Whether you're brand new to specialty coffee or already experimenting with grind sizes and timers, these guides are designed to give you confidence and consistency so every cup tastes amazing.


✨ GENERAL BREWING PRINCIPLES

Before you dive into any method, here are universal rules for better coffee:

1. Use Freshly Ground Coffee

Whole bean always > pre-ground.
Grind right before brewing for maximum aroma and sweetness. Adjust your grinder per brewing method.

2. Use the Right Ratio

The golden starting point: 1:16
(1 gram coffee → 16 grams water)

Need an easier reference?

  • 20g coffee → 320g water

  • 25g coffee → 400g water

  • 30g coffee → 480g water

3. Use Clean, Filtered Water

Water makes up 98% of your cup — it matters!

4. Don’t Skip the Bloom

Always let the grounds bloom for 30–45 seconds to release trapped CO₂.

5. Adjust to Taste

Stronger? Add more coffee.
Brighter? Grind coarser.
More body? Grind finer.


🔽 BREW METHODS


📍 POUR OVER (v60, Kalita, or Any Cone Brewer)

For clarity, sweetness + bright, clean flavor.

Ratio: 1:16
Coffee: 20g
Water: 320g
Grind: Medium-fine (table salt)
Water Temp: 200–205°F
Total Time: 2:45–3:15

Steps

  1. Rinse your filter to remove paper taste.

  2. Add 20g coffee.

  3. Bloom with 60g water for 40 seconds.

  4. Pour in slow circles to 200g by 1:30.

  5. Final pour to 320g by 2:30.

  6. Let drain fully.

🫖 FRENCH PRESS

For rich, full-bodied, cozy brews.

Ratio: 1:15
Coffee: 30g
Water: 450g
Grind: Medium-coarse
Temp: 200°F
Time: 4 minutes

Steps:

  1. Add coffee + water.

  2. Stir gently.

  3. Place lid on, don’t plunge.

  4. Wait 4 minutes.

  5. Plunge slowly and serve.

☕ AEROPRESS

Clean, bright + fast. Perfect for travel.

Ratio: 1:14
Coffee: 16g
Water: 220g
Grind: Medium-fine
Time: 1:45

Steps:

  1. Bloom with 30g water for 30 seconds.

  2. Add remaining water.

  3. Insert plunger and press gently for 30 seconds.

🧊 COLD BREW

Smooth, chocolatey, low acidity.

Ratio: 1:8 concentrate → dilute 1:1
Coffee: 100g coarse
Water: 800g cold
Time: 12–18 hours

Steps:

  1. Combine coffee + water.

  2. Refrigerate overnight.

  3. Strain.

  4. Dilute 1:1.

🔥 ESPRESSO AT HOME

Rich, syrupy + sweet.

Dose: 18g in
Yield: 36g out
Time: 26–30 seconds

Adjust:

  • Too sour → grind finer

  • Too bitter → grind coarser

🍹 FLASH BREW ICED COFFEE

Bright & refreshing — NOT watery.

Coffee: 20g
Ice: 100g in carafe
Hot water: 220g

Brew directly onto the ice.
